George Healey 2:4 Fairbank United
Carter's Field, Batley
Fairbank put them in an excellent position to qualify for the quarter finals of the Sonder Heating Centenary Cup with an excellent win away to George Healey FC. Fairbank raced out of the traps and put George Healey under pressure from the off. Akif tested the keeper as early as the first minute, and Maz shot from the edge of the area over the bar, before Asif latched onto an excellent throughball from Wanchope to calmly lob the onrushing keeper from the edge of the area.
The good work was almost undone, as Nis made a rash challenge in the box just minutes after taking the lead. With Haris out with a broken leg, stand in keeper Nawaz made an excellent save in a commanding performance. Fairbank continued to boss the game in the first half with their excellent short passing game.
Fairbank's wingplay during the first half was excellent, as Bobby and Asif wreaked havoc in the Healey defence. The full backs played their part aswell, supporting and overlapping where ever possible. Nis and Mani put in a resolute performance at centre back, with Aswar picking up all the pieces in midfield on his last performance for the club before his impending nuptials in Pakistan.
Midway through the half Asif broke went through again, meeting another wonderful throughball, and once again lifted it past the oncoming keeper. Just on the stroke of half time the youngster completed his hat trick, as good build up play from Maz, saw the ball eventually fall to Asif at the edge of the area. His shot arrowed it's way into the corner of the net.
The second half began much like the first as Fairbank moved the ball about well. Good build up play between Asif, Akif and Maz, saw Maz release Asif, the hat trick hero though saw his shot parried, only to fall to the on rushing Akif who swept the ball home.
With the game firmly wrapped up Fairbank let their foot off the gas, allowing George Healey back into the game. A needless foul at the edge of the area saw an outstanding free kick embed itself into the top corner. Healey also missed a harshly awarded penalty, before scoring a late consolation to leave the score 4:2
