Fairbank United
4:3 Black Bull
Bingley Road Playing Fields
Fairbank scraped through to their first home win of the season in a match that should have been put to bed at half time. United were the first to settle and had within five minutes taken the lead through the most unlikely of sources. A brilliant corner from Bobby found Wanchope at the back post, who connected well with powerful header which was blocked by a defender on the line. Lo and behold it was the veteran Akif who reacted first to the loose ball and smashed it home from close range.
Fairbank attempted to ratchet up the pressure but it was Black Bull who struck next, being awarded a controversial penalty as Hajee’s brilliant slide tackle was judged to be a foul. The resultant penalty was excellently converted. Bouyed by their fortune Black Bull soon took the lead, from a toe poke from the edge of the area which flew into the far corner of the net.
Then came a period of play when Fairbank completely took over. Nav went through on goal three times in quick succession, only to miss all three chances! Adil replicated Nav’s poor finishing by missing a one on one himself, before brilliant play from Mazhar released Akif on the edge of the area. The chest down and finish bought about Fairbank’s equaliser. A big punt from Harris soon after released Nav who beat the advancing goalkeeper with a cool finish which finally got him on the score sheet and gave Fairbank the lead in the second half.
The second half saw Fairbank dominate again, but credit to Black Bull who put in a spirited performance, and dug deep with some hard tackling in the midfield. As Fairbank attempted to kill the game off it was Black Bull who got the equiliser as a horrible goal kick from Harris was pounced upon and smashed home bringing the scores level again.
Fairbank were guilty of missing more gilt edged chances, through a whole host of forwards, but as the full time whistle approached Adil fed Nav a brilliant ball from the edge of the area and despite all his earlier misses Nav cooly slotted home what turned out to be the winner.
