Steel Bangle 2:2 Fairbank United
Avenue Playing Fields
Steel Bangle provided the first opposition to the new look Fairbank United today at Avenue Playing fields. With six new debutants in the line up Fairbank put up an excellent account of themselves as they battled out a 2:2 draw with their more experienced rivals.
Steel Bangle started the more composed of the two teams as Fairbank took time to settle, and lax defending saw them take the lead early on in the half. It took time to Fairbank to haul themselves back into the game, and had Haris in goal, and excellent defending from both Maz and Quiad at centre back to keep Fairbank in the game.
As the half progressed Fairbank began to get a firmer grip on the game, and it was left to Kashif to place an inch perfect through ball for Adil to latch on to, before he coolly rounded the keeper and converted with ease on the stroke of half time. The second half saw Steel Bangle come out of the traps quicker, and another defensive mistake saw them take the lead. Fairbank picked themselves up and for the last 30 minutes dominated the game.
Chances went begging as first Shoulders failed to connect from an excellent cross from Bobby, Kashif's right wing cross was missed by Kammy and Kashif himself was at fault, missing a sitter from an excellent centre from Quaid. Quaid though finished off an excellent debut soon after as Steel Bangle failed to clear a poorly taken corner, leaving him to crash home an equaliser.
With the team having a recently come together it was a good performance full of promise. With plenty of time before the season starts many of the errors will be rectified before the big kick off in September
